Treated Wood For Boat Transom

treated wood for boat transom

It is believed that some boat manufacturers used a copper oxide treated plywood in their transom’s. copper and aluminum react with one another and the end result is oxidation of the aluminum from the inside out on the stern of your boat (behind the transom wood). see picture above of the bubbling paint/ aluminum pitting.. Transom fabrication: typical small boats have transoms made of wood, as the years pass the wood will rot and become useless. this instructable will guide you in removing, fabricating and replacing the transom of that old boat you just bough againt your wife's wishes.. One such interaction is when aluminum is in contact with pressure treated wood. the pressure treated wood contains copper, along with other metals, that interacts with aluminum and causes the corrosion. by following a few simple steps, the dissimilar materials can be separated and the corrosion process stopped..
